THE BEST BALI LOCATIONS
Here you will enjoy the ambience of one of most famous beaches of Bali, the place to be for surfing, sunbathing, serious shopping and exciting night life.
Called the trendiest spot in south Bali, this sea front village is a world on its own! Hip and stylish, with great shopping opportunities that include high-end boutiques, numerous spas and beauty salons with treatments designed for your well-being, local and international restaurants, bars and a legendary clubbing scene.
A marvelous long and flat stretch of beach invites you to sunbathe and enjoy the sunsets at various high-end beachfront establishments. Good surf too and less crowded than the Kuta -Legian area!
What used to be a remote village has been developed in recent years to include many charming villas and bungalows available for holiday rentals. The stretch of beach at Canggu is a very popular surf spot with often dramatic waves crashing on the shore. Sunsets here are particularly spectacular and can also be enjoyed while dining al fresco at one of the seaside restaurants.
Kerobokan is a sprawling traditional village with well-appointed villas hidden away in quiet lanes. Both Canggu and Kerobokan are about a 20 minutes drive from Seminyak and besides offering lovely views over pastoral rice fields they are a pleasant areas to go home to after enjoying busy Seminyak.
Ideal for a family holiday is Sanur, a coastal stretch of beach close to Bali’s capital Denpasar in the south-east. It is a more up market and quieter alternative to Kuta if you come to Bali for sun and fun.
At low tide the white sand beach is vast and shallow, and at high tide excellent for swimming. A variety of water sports are available, with equipment to rent.
Already on the drive from the airport towards the town of Ubud you will enjoy seeing glimpses of the authentic rural Bali. Once on site, you will by surrounded by breathtaking views of mountains and rice paddies; on clear days the majestic volcanoes will reveal themselves. The countryside is unspoiled and because of its higher elevation it is cooler than at the south coast, offering many opportunities for walking and cycling.
In Ubud itself you will be immersed in Balinese culture, arts, crafts, museums, dance and music, temples, ancient sites and traditional and modern health and beauty treatments available in spas and yoga centers; some of the finest foods await you in numerous restaurants.
The area south of the airport connects to mainland Bali by an isthmus and is called the Bukit. It has become a hot spot for new developments of hotels and villas in spite of the at times rather arid and rocky landscape. Spectacular cliffs tower over sensational beaches and the view over the Indian Ocean is memorable. One of the most famous surfing spots in the world, Padang Padang is located on the western side of the Bukit.
Nusa Dua runs along the eastern side of the Bukit peninsula. A host of luxury hotels, the main convention centre and the most popular golf course of Bali are only topped by the fantastic long stretch of white sand beaches.
On the southeast coast, Padang Bai and Candidasa are maybe among the lesser-known villages in Bali. Nevertheless, they provide typical hideaway settings, with Padang Bay also being the ferry port to set over to the island of Lombok. Nearby Tenganan is the oldest Balinese traditional village and quiet and serene days are to be had in the Candidasa area, living in close proximity to the local population.
Continuing from Candidasa east through mountainous terrain, small villages and picturesque rice terraces, plenty of fruit orchards line the route, including rambutan, durian, coconut, avocado, jackfruit and the indigenous salak. Hot water and healing springs and several ancient sites invite for a visit. The village of Amed is a spectacular point to see the sun rise behind a flotilla of local fisherman out for an early catch. Plenty of good snorkeling grounds and quiet serene evenings are a perfect getaway particularly for families. Nearby in the area of Tulamben, a shipwreck abundantly overgrown with coral is part of one of the most spectacular diving areas in Bali.
The northern coast of Bali is distinctively different to the south. Here you find stunning black sand beaches made up of huge amounts of fragmental volcanic debris leading to spectacular diving and snorkeling sites, and in the Lovina area you will see dolphins frolicking in their natural habitat. The nights are quiet under a starlit night sky unpolluted by city lights, and with an occasional frog concert to boot. Taking a spontaneous evening drive, it is easy to discover a local ceremony or celebration in progress.
The village of Pemuteran is home to a protected underwater sanctuary with beautiful villas right at the beach and is one of our favorite spots on the island. A mostly calm ocean with an abundance of tropical fish right off the coast is a favorite for snorkeling. For divers, a trip to the nearby protected island of Menjangan is a must. Several very old and important temples protect the area and can be visited. Suitable for all who love nature and quiet surroundings.
